Walking on the strings
Artists' Residence for International Transients
When inhabitants experience their journey as transients, they know that it is always a one-way route. They never know if there is any chance to come back to where they’ve been, therefore, they can only carry on walking down their path as if travelling to different places. I want to let the visitors of the site experience what inhabitants have been through therefore they’ve known a bit more about the inhabitants and share the feeling that inhabitants can feel closer to the locals and see the site as their home and roots.
The journey interpretation is something I take into my design in the site which the main intervention of the passage is metaphoric the journey which the visitors walk on and have several stops, encounters, wonders, and keep continuing visiting the art pieces inhabitants showcase. By experiencing the journey on the site, it forms a connection between inhabitants, visitors, and arts. It brings an invisible relation inadvertently by scattering the residential space in the site while visitors could accidentally encounter the inhabitants who exhibit the art pieces they are viewing. The residential space of the site is a metaphor for the spots that inhabitants have been to in their lives to stop and stay which later become part of their roots and cultural heritage (even if it’s not their real cultural heritage). The scattered residential spaces are the places where inhabitants are going to spend time the most in the site-building which reminds them of the feeling of staying in several places. in the world as transients. The site-building perhaps could bring a closer connection inside their hearts by letting them experience the “travelling” that they know the most in their lives.
